Frequently asked questions

Thank you for taking the time to review web site. We encourage you to call us (207-443-3080) with any questions that come to mind. In the meantime, we'd like to offer the following list of frequently asked questions (and answers).

Why Chop Point School?

The answer to that question has four parts: 1) academics, 2) size, 3) teachers, 4) spiritual aspects. Chop Point offers an education that is more comprehensive than most schools in both its rigors and depth. Because the class size is limited to twelve, the staff gives students more individual attention and can increase the pace at which materials is covered, according to the student. Chop Point teachers are committed Christians who have a heart for the students as well as education. As a non-denominational school that believes in a student's right ot make personal decisions about spiritual issues, the staff teachers that there are absolute truths and encourages students to live a morally sound life.

Who is best served by Chop Point School?

Students with average or above average ability, prepared to be offered a challenging academic program. Student participation in our program is required for continued enrollment.

Can you help with learning problems?

Probably not. We have only academic teachers on our staff. Our small class sizes do benefit some students who struggle to maintain their focus. A good learning atmosphere is expected of all students.

What about the "religion"?

Our staff holds a distincly Christian perspective toward life and the world in which we live. But... our school population is very diverse, not unlike secular schools. We appreciate the freedom of sharing Biblical views to life's questions. Students become better prepared to make decisions in their own lifetime with this broader education.

What colleges have your graduates attended?

Some of the post-secondary schools that Chop Point graduates have attended include: Gordon College, Gettysburg College, Franklin Pierce, Dalhousie University, St. Joseph's, Dean College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Sacred Heart University, Northwestern Bible College, and Bethany Bible College.

Will my town pay the fee?

Unfortunately not. Maine law currently prohibits the use of tax monies for an educational program where religion is taught.

Can I pay monthly?

An initial deposit of $500 is due on August 1st or upon enrollment, if after that date. The balance may be paid on a monthly basis through the month of May.

Is there a discount for families with multiple children enrolled?

The tuition for any additional younger children from the same family is reduced by: 2nd child less $500: 3rd child less $1000: 4th and additional children less $1500.

Do you offer scholarships or other discounts?

Aside from the multiple child discount (see above), the only other discount offered is 5% off if the full tuition is paid by September 1st.

The fees charged do not meet all the financial needs of the program. It is hoped that school families and other friends will consider giving tax-deductible gifts as they are able. We are currently seeking to develop an endowment which would help provide the funds needed above student fees, as well as perhaps offer scholarship funds for needy students. But unfortunately, such funds are not yet available.

I've read all your materials, now what?

Call to schedule a visit. Your child is welcome to come with you or not, as you choose. After this initial parent visit we will schedule a day for the student to spend the entire day with his/her grade level. This student visit helps everyone determine if this is a good student/school fit.
