Chop Point School

School Elementary program

Younger children need a happy, protected, safe harbor in an atmosphere in which they feel completely accepted. A happy child will enjoy learning. Chop Point's goal is to supply such a place. The small class size allows for individualized attention as well as targeting—and resolving—of problem areas of each student. In fact, no class accepts more than 12 students, to ensure each student receives adequate personalized attention.

"It always seems to be a cheerful, loving place... with lots of laughter.
I love the casual atmosphere." — K-6 teacher

Chop Point's kindergarten program, which meets a full five days each week, teaches reading skills using a phonics approach. This method allows students to feel a sense of accomplishment from the very beginning.

The core curriculum in the elementary grades is A Beka, adopted by over 17,000 Christian schools. Using this curriculum, the average second grade student reads on a fourth grade level, and the average fifth grader on an eighth grade level. The staff emphasizes math skills at an early age, and seeks to give children a firm basis for the more rigorous mathematical concepts encountered as they further their studies.

Students have several periods a week of Spanish, art, music, computer, and recreation. Teachers are encouraged to add their own educational trips to the curriculum.
