
Tips for New Campers...
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Using the Medical History and Release Form prepared by the American Camping Association sent to parents prior to the opening of camp, each person is required to pass a physical examination performed by a licensed pysician before entry into camp. (The form is available in PDF format. If your computer can not process this file, please download the appropriate viewer from Adobe.) Should you have any problems, please call us at (207)443-5860.
WHAT TO BRING
Chop Point does not provide a specific clothing list. Campers dress informally in casual clothing including shorts, T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and jeans. Other necessities include warm pajamas, a rain suit (for canoeing, kayaking, biking & hiking trips), sleeping bag, at least two Sunday outfits, bathing suits, several changes of socks and underwear, shoes, rugged outdoor shoes for hiking trips, towels, twin size sheets, pillow cases, soap, toothbrush, and a flashlight.
Optional items include backpack, writing paper, Bible, beach towel or blanket, tennis shoes, tennis racket, tennis balls, camera, musical instrument, art supplies, athletic gear, fishing gear, books, bicycle, and a waterproof bag for keeping sleeping bag dry on canoe/kayak trips.
Please DO NOT BRING: knife, MP3 player, radio or CD player, hunting equipment, computer, game boy, or cell phone.
Blankets and pillows may be provided by the camp if needed. All clothing MUST be labeled with the first and last name. A laundry marker works best.
TRANSPORTATION & DIRECTIONS TO CHOP POINT
The closest airport to Chop Point is in Portland, Maine. The Portland Jetport is about 1 hour South of Chop Point, and campers are met at the airport by a staff member before being transported to Chop Point. In addition, campers are transported back to the airport for their scheduled departure at the end of camp. General information: (207) 774-7301 / Paging (207) 775-5809. The next closest airport is Boston, Massachusetts' Logan Airport. Unfortunately, since Boston is about 3 hours South of Chop Point, parents must make their own arrangements for campers to be transported to/from Portland. Bus and Limo services (Mermaid Transportation: 1-800-696-2463) are available from Boston to points North such as Portland and Brunswick, Maine.

There are also several travel agencies that have set up online ticketing. By using the services of these web sites, you are able to check available fares for multiple airlines at the same time. Most require (free) registration prior to use.

Amtrak trains go as far north as Portland, but do require changing trains in Boston. Bus and Limo services are available from Boston to points North such as Portland and Brunswick, Maine.
Greyhound Bus Lines runs to Brunswick, Maine, which is about 30 minutes from Chop Point. Campers are met at the station in Brunswick, and transported by a staff member to Chop Point. An average one way fare from Boston, Massachusetts to Brunswick, Maine is between $15 and $20.
In addition, Concord Trailways operates service right into downtown Bath, which is about 15 minutes away from Chop Point. Campers are met at the station in Bath, and transported by a staff member to Chop Point. An average one way fare from Boston, Massachusetts to Bath, Maine is between $25-35.
Both bus lines depart daily from Logan Airport in Boston, as well as from Boston's South Station (the hub of train, bus and subway lines).

From New York City
Take Interstate 684 and 84 to Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90), leave Mass. Pike at Interstate 495 and head north to Interstate 95. Take Exit 6A (So. Portland Exit) to Rt. 295. Continue on Rt. 295 to Exit 31 (Topsham/ Route 1). Turn right at the top of the exit ramp and follow signs to Route 1.
From Bath, Maine (ROUTE 1) to Chop Point
1. After crossing the Bath bridge into Woolwich, drive a short distance before turning left onto Rt. 127 North.
2. After traveling north on Rt. 127 for two miles, take a left onto Rt. 128.
3. After traveling north on Rt. 128 for 5.2 miles, take a sharp left at Chop Point sign onto dirt road. Chop Point is located at the end of the 2 mile road.
GUEST HOUSE FOR FRIENDS & FAMILY
The "Abbie Cogswell Barker" Guesthouse is located on sixty beautiful acres. The property not only includes fields and woods for hiking, but also frontage on the Kennebec River. The farm is located ten miles north of Chop Point in the town of Dresden. Chop Point welcomes parents and friends at the guest house. The $50.00 per room rate is double occupancy. There is a $15 per person charge for each additional person staying in a single room. Bathroom facilities are shared.
